As many of you know, the City of Regina will be meeting next week to discuss the proposed budget that was presented to City Council last month.

These proposed cuts are serious.

If they move forward, we could see the loss—or the reduction—of hundreds of public service jobs. And with those jobs go the vital services that our members provide every single day.

If these cuts are passed as they are, many of our members could lose their jobs. Others could face heavier workloads, fewer resources and more pressure than ever before.

Your Local  21 CUPE Executive is working hard to protect your jobs and safeguard the vital Public Services our community relies on.

I have submitted a formal response to City Council outlining why these proposed cuts are unacceptable and how they will harm residents across Regina.

I will also be appearing as part of a delegation to speak directly to City Council about the real impacts these decisions will have on workers and the people who depend on the services we provide.

Public services are the backbone of our city. When you cut jobs, you cut services. And when you cut services, you directly impact the quality of life for everyone who calls this city home.

We’re already seeing examples in this proposed budget., such as:

* Cuts to shelter supports;

* Road maintenance;

* Snow removal; and

* Pest control will make Regina less safe.

Reducing staffing and training will weaken service delivery and overwhelm the workers who remain.

Closing pools, arenas, arts centres, and cutting transit services will diminish community wellbeing and take away programs and supports that families depend on.

And some of these changes carry hidden costs that will fall on the public—especially the most vulnerable. Ending housing incentives, adding new fees, and cutting transit and school bus services will only make life harder.

That’s why we need your voice.

I am asking every member here today to contact City Council.

Tell them to protect jobs.

Tell them to protect services.

Every message matters.

When Councillors hear from you, they are reminded that these decisions affect real people—not just numbers on a page.

The services we provide make Regina livable. These cuts put that at risk.

When you cut public services, you hurt real people.
When you slash jobs, you weaken the community.

Let’s stand together. Let’s protect our city. And let’s push for responsible, thoughtful municipal planning that supports workers and strengthens our community.
